Before we begin, as way or reminder, psychic phenomena include such things as telepathy, remote viewing, clairvoyance, precognition, retrocognition, psychokinesis (telekinesis), etc. Many of these phenomena have been tested over and over again among humans in a laboratory setting, and over and over again the odds still defy chance. Which is why so many skeptics are now coming around.
One of the methods parapsychologist use to analyze the data from all the experiments is called meta-analysis. Meta-analysis is a statistical technique that combines all the findings from various independent studies. It requires a strong, systematic review of all the data, and aims to cover all the relevant studies for its topic. This type of research analysis is also used to determine the clinical effectiveness of healthcare interventions. Parapsychologists have adopted this type of statistical research, an the numbers against chance for psi-phenomena are nothing short of astounding. Basically, if we look at all the test that have been done since the days of J.B. Rhine in the 1930's at the parapsychology lab that he founded at Duke University, up until modern research, we see that when we compile all the data from all the test, the results defy chance. Meta-analysis is a better statistical tool than just looking at individual test. For instance, in testing psychic phenomena, one test may result in odds being strictly chance, while another will result in being explained as greatly defying chance. It would be easy for skeptics to isolate the experiments that result in chance and say, "See, psi phenomenon doesn't exist." The opposite case is also true. It would be easy for a believer in psi phenomena to say, "Look, this experiment defies chance, so psi is real." This is why meta-analysis is the best way to examine the data. Let's look at all the test and calculate the odds and see what we come up with. The numbers don't lie, and the evidence for psi-phenomena in the laboratory is so great that it is no longer being ignored.
As we examine each of these phenomena, not only will I be appealing to some of the numbers and test from these meta-analysis, I will also give real-world testimonies. At the end of each section we will then examine these things from a Biblical perspective. We will also look and see if these abilities differ from the miraculous things we see in Scripture like miracles, prophecy, healing, etc. At the end of this entire section, we will deal with the question of whether or not psi phenomena is a supernatural, satanic power (like many Christians argue), a simple natural ability, a simple natural ability that can be harnessed for good or evil, or all of the above.
