Throughout the Bible, and throughout the history of the church, the ones who made the most impact for the kingdom are the ones who sacrificed the greatest for it. You stand on the sacrifice of others. In fact, the only reason you have salvation is because of sacrifice. God sacrificed His Son, and the Son willingly sacrificed Himself. Look under your feet and you will find a mountain of lives that were given up, along with rivers of blood and tears.
Were it not for martyrs like Polycarp, Ignatius, and Justin, Christianity wouldn't have survived the Roman persecution.
Were it not for martyrs like John Huss, along with the sacrifice of William Tyndale, Christianity wouldn't have seen the rise of the Protestant Reformation.
Were it not for the sacrifice of Martin Luther and John Calvin, the Protestant Reformation would not have begun, nor would it have taken hold.
We stand on the sacrifice of others.
These men gave up rest, comfort, finances, and some even gave their life. Why? For the kingdom. For its expanse, and so that God would be glorified.
